Dubai-based e-commerce company Souq.com has raised $275 million from Tiger Global management and Naspers. Other investors included Standard Chartered Private Equity, International Finance Corp., and Ballie Gifford. The Amazon-like company is reportedly valued at around $1 billion following the financing round. “We will use the capital from this investment to offer our customers even more choice with a best in class online shopping experience, expanding into new categories such as Fashion and Lifestyle and opening our own logistics centers in UAE, KSA and Egypt”, said Ronaldo Mouchawar, CEO of Souq.com.
Health Catalyst, a healthcare data warehousing, analytics and outcomes improvement company, has closed a $70 million Series E funding round. Norwest Venture Partners and UPMC co-led the round, with participation from customers MultiCare Health System and OSF Healthcare, new investor Leerink Capital and previous backers Sequoia Capital, Sands Capital, Kaiser Permanente Ventures, CHV Capital (an Indiana UniversityHealth Company), Partners HealthCare, EPIC Venture Partners, Leavitt Equity Partners, and Tenaya Capital. “Amid a very challenging capital environment, we are honored to have been oversubscribed for this latest round of financing at an increased valuation relative to our most recent round, continuing a trend that we have been fortunate to experience throughout our history,” said Health Catalyst CEO Dan Burton. “We are grateful that new investors UPMC, MultiCare, OSF and Leerink, as well as our existing investors, have provided us with the opportunity to continue to grow and expand.”
India-based e-commerce service company Hopscotch has closed a $13 million Series C round led by Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Hopscotch focuses its e-commerce services on mums, and previously raised an $11 million Series B round in January 2015. “Hopscotch is taking a customer focused approach and as a result seeing record high customer retention. I believe that if they continue serving moms with an exceptional selection, coupled with a delightful tailor-made experience, Hopscotch will become the destination for moms in India,” Saverin said in a statement.
