Seed Funding
PaintZen, a house painting company, has raised $1.81 million in seed funding from Lerer Hippeau Ventures, NextView Ventures, Quotidian Ventures, Angelpad and Barbara Corcoran. The company has now officially launched its services in New York and San Francisco. “Paintzen has the potential to transform the painting industry, says Eric Hippeau, Partner at Lerer Hippeau Ventures. “There’s going to be explosive growth in the tech-enabled home service space across the board, and Paintzen is at the forefront of the market, providing services where people need it, in a simple and innovative way.”

Natural language processing company Idibon has secured a $5.5 million Series A funding round led by Altpoint Ventures, Khosla Ventures and Morningside Ventures, with participation from Samsung and Inventec. The company will use the funding for hiring new staff and global expansion. Ibidon combines machine learning and natural language with a global network of analysts to understand language faster, more accurately and with less cost. “At Idibon, we empower our clients to extract the information that matters most to them,” said Robert Munro, CEO of Idibon. “Idibon is passionate about helping organizations unlock the information in our rapidly connecting world, from helping make smart phones smarter to helping UNICEF extract information in dozens of languages in Africa — all with the same technology.”
Series B
Quantopian, an algorithmic investing platform, has raised a Series B round of funding worth $15 million, led by Bessemer Venture Partners. Previous investors Spark Capital, Khosla Ventures and Wicklow Capital all participated. The company provides an online network for developers of quantitative trading algorithms for live trading. Quantopian has raised $24 million to date and will use the latest funding expansion into international markets. “Quantopian’s mission is to attract and train the world’s best algorithmic and financial talent, including talent that hasn’t yet had the opportunity to be a quant,” said Khosla Ventures partner, Ben Ling. “The company’s latest effort will take the final step to connect that quant community with capital.”
