Belgian venture capital firm Volta Ventures has announced a €35 million ($39m) second fund, which it will invest in early-stage and high-growth businesses in the Benelux (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) region of Europe.
The 2014-founded company, headed by Frank Maene in Gent, Belgium and Sander Vonk in Amsterdam, will aim its so-called “Volta Ventures II” fund at young startups that are either early-stage or pre-revenue. It will invest between 300,000€ ($335,000) and €2m ($2.2m) in each funding round.
Volta hopes to add to a portfolio that boasts local brands including WidgetBrain, Qualifo and Yields.io. It wants its second fund to bridge the so-called “financing gap” that exists between angel investors with several thousands of dollars to spend on companies, and large outfits that put millions into more established firms.
