Genius Quiz App, an e-learning venture from one of India’s startup stars, has won $2 million in seed funding from a constellation of Indian and American angel investors.
The firm is the latest project by Advitiya Sharma, co-founder of real estate portal Housing.com, which has attracted high-profile backers such as WhatsApp India CEO Abhijit Bose. Housing.com is one of India’s largest property outfits, and has raised almost $150m since its 2012 foundation.
Genius Quiz App is a quiz-based learning platform that follows Sharma’s founding of Genius Teacher in 2016. Genius Teacher has 5,000 quizzes, 10,000 personalized videos and offers working partnerships with WhatsApp, Mahindra and several academic institutions.
“We will utilize the funds for product innovations such as live quizzing and to grow fast to million-plus students in the next 12 months,” Sharma told The Hindu Business Online. “Our mission is to make the company the Netflix of education in India.”
“We would look at raising further funding of about $5-8m in the next one year or so,” Sharma added.
