SeatGeek raises $62m funding round

SeatGeek, a mobile platform for sports and concert tickets, has raised $62 million in Series C funding led by Technology Crossover Ventures. Accel, Causeway Media Partners and Mousse Partners participated in the round. The company, which has now raised a total of $103 million, will use the latest funds to expand marketing efforts in North America and hire new staff. “The way people buy tickets is changing, thanks to mobile,” said Jack Groetzinger, founder of SeatGeek. “SeatGeek builds products that facilitate that change. We have ambitious goals; I’m confident that TCV will help us achieve them, and I am thrilled to be partnering with Dan.”

VarageSale, an online local marketplace, has raised $34 million in funding from Lightspeed and Sequoia. The company will use the funding for product development, community growth and to expand its team. VarageSale offers users the chance to sell and buy items and connect with their local community, it is said to be major competitor of the likes of Craigslist. “We’ve grown 400% since this time last year, and we will continue to build the best team possible to meet the expectation of our extremely passionate member base” said Carl Mercier, co-founder and CEO of VarageSale. “Toronto has great local talent pool to help build the team.”

Reports suggest the on-demand shipping company Shyp is raising a $50 million funding round at a $250 million valuation. TechCrunch reported the possible deal, and according to its sources, the round will be led by Kleiner Perkins. Shyp’s service includes picking up items from users and delivering it, after the user has sent a photo of the package to Shyp.

PicnicHealth has raised $2 million in seed funding for its medical records solution, TechCrunch has reported. The company was launched out of Y Combinator last year and helps patients organize all of their medical records from all of their doctors. Investors included Social+Capital, Great Oaks, Slow Ventures and Stanford’s StartX Fund.
