Old-school networking master Barbara Walters included MySpace founders Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson in her 10 Most Fascinating People of 2007 special last night along with the creepily tan Beckhams, even creepier Don Imus, and the refreshingly lovely Katherine Heigl. (The honor of most fascinating person went to J.K. Rowling for those of you who care.)
Back at the end of November, Baba Wawa was heard fretting over her lack of MySpace contacts during her Sirius radio show.
According to New York Magazine, when Bill Geddies, who co-produces The View with her, pointed out that Chris and Tom were her only friends, Walters was devastated.
“Nobody else wanted to be my friend? ... Nobody I went to high school with?” she cried.
Oh Barbara, do you really think your septuagenarian high school chums are all hanging out on MySpace complaining about their current meds?
I guess her pleas for friends worked though. The 78-year-old now has a network of 10,451 friends. And her social circle seems to be growing by the minute.
I don’t find her “who I’d like to meet” answer of “I’ve met pretty much everyone” particularly inviting, but maybe her on-air pleas for friends were more compelling.
Or maybe folks are being lured under the false pretense of meeting a 24-year-old New York female. Come on, Babs! We know you’re single, but do you really need to stoop to lying about your age?
Well, welcome to 2003 (when MySpace was started), Babs. I’m sure you and your new friend Jedi Hurrricane Hugo will have a lot to talk about.
Maybe Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg will make your list in 2011.
