Palm CEO Ed Colligan needed to come up with something big.
Palm on Thursday at the Consumer Electronics Show in LasVegas launched its next-generation Nova mobile software and showed off its latest smartphone, dubbed the Palm Pre.
Investors pushed shares higher $0.35, or 10 percent, at $3.65 in midday trading.
The beleaguered handheld maker has been slow to innovate in the past year as Apple’s iPhone and RIM’s BlackBerry have made steady advances in the mobile market.
Palm’s new mobile device features a touch screen and a slide out keyboard. It will have 8GB of storage and a 3.1-inch display.
