eMeter Juices Up $12 Million

eMeter has bagged $12.5 million in venture capital funding for its energy management software.

The San Mateo, California, company provides software that captures data on gas, electric, and water. eMeter has about 20 million customers using its software.

"This new capital will allow us to invest in our core software and infrastructure and pursue potential strategic initiatives, without compromising our meter product independence," eMeter founder and CEO Cree Edwards said in a statement.

The company, founded in 1999, has been under contract with PG&E to put in place software for real-time energy metering. eMeter promises energy efficiency by monitoring demand response and usage.

The funding round, announced Sunday, comes from Siemens and existing investors Foundation Capital and DBL Investors.
